You have to have an attitude for the sport of bicycle touring. I live in Canada. We have long Winters. I cannot wait for summer to come so that I can tour. This year, I will be doing 1150 KM bike tour, solo, which will cover the praries of Alberta, to Banff National Park, to Yoho National Park, the Golden Triangle, Kootenay National Park, to Lake Louise, to SK Crossing, to Rocky Mountain House and back to Edmtonton. Two weeks of riding and rest. I expect to lose at least 15 pounds.

Here is why solo bike touring is the greatest: 1) View alwyas hanges, like a different canvass every 5 min. 2) Solitude for reflection, deep thought, and contemplation. 3) FITNESS. 4) Huge weight loss 6. Dealing with physical pain. 7. Lots of fresh air. 8, Live simple life of camping. You get free mental, physical and psychological therapy. You get people's respect for daring to tour alone. YOU STILL THINK TOURING IT IS BORING? Then go play croquet while sipping tea and eating English muffin.

in a way, u cud say that but u juz cannot say that the touring is boring. people reactions in our modern day environment where we could get so much thru the access of internet, the availability of information on a lot of things has IN A WAY pushed the enthusiasm level of the touring itself in the eyes of those who do not encompass in the activity to be as a little boring. but not to those who does it. there's a great many out there who still enjoy bike touring n i'm one of em.!!

I know one thing. Your monologue about it on the couch for 5 minutes is not helping matters.

There's so much of it out there, that people simply got numb to that. Hence you need to make a decision. Do you ride your bike for pleasure or are you just trying to raise the money for charity. If your answer is no. 1 than it means that bicycle touring is not boring. If it's no. 2, than you should find some other way to drag people's attention and promote your project.I really believe, that many people use charity as an excuse to prove that what they do isn't simply a nice way to waste time.

I don't really get the idea of raising money for charity by doing a bike tour or runing a marathon, etc.Maybe that's because this way of supporting charity has never been popular in Poland, where I live. But thinking about it, I'd say that moaning about decreasing (media) popularity of bike touring is simply missing the whole point. It's an effect of so many crazy projects in sports, travels and the whole outdoor movement in general.
